Impact Learning Expander Series

These are a series of workshops available to graduates that expand on concepts and techniques learned on The Power to Train. Trainers are given the opportunity to go into more depth and detail in specialist areas.

From the back of the room

For all Rich Allen graduates, this is a chance to look underneath what Rich does and why he does it. Instead of participating, you get to observe from the back of the room. This allows you to analyse what Rich does, his techniques, the language, the music to mention a few.

In addition, Rich will spend some time with you at breaks, debriefing what he has done, highlighting a technique he is going to use. It’s a bit like that film, "Being John Malkovich".

The workshop includes lunches, morning and afternoon teas and unlimited learning opportunities.

The Next Step™

The Next Step Personalized Coaching Workshop

This workshop is designed for the greatest amount of personal attention possible. The number of participants in this program is limited to 12 ensuring the maximum amount of coaching time. Participants should be prepared to present at least one short segment of a prepared (or brand new) presentation to receive maximum benefit from this unique opportunity. Everyone learns in a safe, helpful atmosphere.

Solve your training problems...

An opportunity to bring your training problems, challenges or questions to a full-day workshop with Rich. This workshop is the ideal opportunity to pick Rich's brains and get his ideas and inputs. These problems/questions/challenges may include:

How to map out a new programme quickly
How to beef up the start of your programme
How to craft your language for framing activities
How to practise giving instructions so participants do what you expect them to do
How to add energisers and engagers without increasing the course length
What type of music to add where
How do I get the participants to engage in this particular section? They don't seem to be motivated to learn this
How do I get more value out of my debriefing of a particular activity?
My participants are accelerated learning averse
How do I enrol them in doing more activities without them thinking it is childish and beneath them?
I would love to use storytelling to introduce this section but I can't think of the right one

Music & Learning™

Many people who have attended The Power to Train have loved the way Rich uses music in his workshops and have asked for more in-depth knowledge about music and its use in the training room. Music & Learning is the result.

During this workshop you'll have the opportunity to:

Identify songs which might be useful options from each decade
Increase your understanding of options for quieter times in learning
Recognise the most useful moments for using music during training
Develop an understanding of the theory behind why music works for learning
Take an inside look at how to build a CD collection
Discuss important legal issues regarding using music
Practise using music when you're training!

In addition, you may want to bring along your course/workshops for ideas of which music you could use, and when.

Maximum number of participants - 20.
Refreshments, lunch, workbook and unlimited learning opportunities included in price.

Energisers, Engagers and Activities™

A special one-day course on ENERGISERS, ENGAGERS AND ACTIVITIES for graduates of previous Rich Allen/Impact Learning courses. At this stage this workshop is only available in Auckland. To attend you need to have participated in either The Power to Train or From the Front of the Room with Rich.

The Power to Train and From the Front of the Room courses are built around a few simple beliefs about learning. One of these is that for training to be effective it must include moments where the program is interactive.

Naturally, this assumption implies that trainers must know a heap of ideas for energisers, engagers, and learning activities which they can pull out of their bags of tricks and use at any given moment.

The intention of this one-day follow-up is to provide you with even more options for these situations. We discuss at least:

30 brief state changes that work in most environments and with most groups
20 energisers to use throughout your courses and workshops
5 longer activities you may not know that can be used to teach a variety of topics

PLUS a bonus Debriefing activities for maximum learning

This is the minimum. Depending on how much time we have, we may get to do much more than this. Keep an open mind and come ready to rock 'n roll!

So if you would like to:

Liven up your learning environment
Increase energy levels for both yourself as presenter, and your learners'
Give learners' brains some non-learning integration time
Have more fun while training
Get a 'top up' of Rich to inspire and enthuse you

Maximum number of participants – 20.
Refreshments, lunch, workbook and unlimited learning opportunities included in price.

Storytelling and Metaphor™

Using storytelling and metaphor as another learning tool in your training engages your participants emotionally and enhances their recall and retention.

Learn:

At least 5 new stories you can use immediately
How to turn everyday situations into useable stories
How to turn simple stories into powerful metaphors for learning
Powerful phrases for introducing and ending a story
How to use your voice to create different characters
How to use your body to act out roles to stimulate the reactions of kinesthetic learners
How to use contrast to highlight and illustrate key points within any story
How to wrap up a story so your central point is clearly made and understood

Giving Directions™

Why do a course on giving directions?

Clarity in instructions and directions is the single biggest element in making action and interaction an essential, effective component of every learning session. On the flipside using unclear ambiguous directions in a training session is one of the biggest causes of frustration for both the participants and the trainer.

This fast-paced, interactive day will focus on how trainers can rapidly move participants into and between activities and group interactions with a minimum amount of energy and time. The goal is for you to become even more streamlined and polished as a trainer.

The key to this workshop is that participants will be the ones doing the presenting. You are invited to bring any state changes, energisers, and activities that you are either currently using in your workshop sessions or plan to try out in future sessions. You will then have the opportunity to present them to the group and receive feedback on the clarity and specificity of the directions.

And you don't have to present if you would rather not...

If you know you would like to gain an increased understanding of how to give effective directions, yet are unsure what to present to the group - that's fine! Come to the day and join in as a learner. New state changes and energisers will be introduced that you could learn for the first time and try out that very day.

The format of the day is wide open, with the single biggest goal being that each participant walks away with more knowledge about how to give effective directions in any teaching or training setting.

Maximum number of participants – 20.
Refreshments, lunch, workbook and unlimited learning opportunities included in price.
